คนสมัยนี้ให้ความสำคัญกับคำว่า "เกียรติ" น้อยลง People nowadays give lesser important to the terms "Honor(s), Glory, Reputation, Dignity, .." แต่ในหลากหลายสังคมทั้งในและต่างประเทศหลายแห่งยังให้ความสำคัญกับคำว่า เกียรติ นี้อยู่ Eventhough many societies worldwide still adhere to these terms.
เกียรติ, เกียรติ-, เกียรติ์ (น.) ชื่อเสียง (Reputation), ความยกย่องนับถือ (Respect), ความมีหน้ามีตา (respectability + Reputation). ซึ่งเกี่ยวข้องกับ คำเลื่องลือ (renowned, reputed), คำสรรเสริญ (praise ; laud ; admire ; eulogize ; extol)
ยกย่อง สรรเสริญ สดุดี หรือ ให้รางวัล ด้วยสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่ง สามารถใช้ honour with [PHRV]
ศาสตราจารย์แห่งวิศวกรรมศาสตร์ร่วมแบ่งบันยกย่องเกียรติยศ/รางวัล/คำสรรเสริญ ที่ได้รับกับเพื่อน ๆ หลายคน The Professor of Engineering shares his honour with many friends.
เกียรตินิยม [N] ใช้ "honor degree" เช่น เขาจบการศึกษาด้วยเกียรตินิยม He graduated with honors. หรือ He hold/received a Bachelor of Engineering with Honors.
ถ้าจบการศึกษาด้วยเกียรตินิยมอันดับหนึ่ง ก็ใช้ first class honour.
เกียรติคุณ = prestige, renowned deed, honor, high reputation
เกียรติประวัติ ใช้ glorious biography
เกียรติยศในลักษณะกิตติมศักดิ์ ใช้ honorary (adj) เช่น กองบรรณาธิการกิตติมศักดิ์ใช้ Honorary Editorial Board คณะกรรมการกิตติมศักดิ์ ใช้ Honorary Committee
เกียรติของข้าคือความซื่อสัตย์จงรักภักดีของข้า My honor is my loyalty.
